A PhD graduate from the Eberhard-Karls University Tuebingen (Germany) and a fellow from the German Research Foundation, Dr. Behren was recruited to the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research in Melbourne (LICR), Australia in 2008. He was appointed to his current position as Head of the Tumour Immunology Laboratory (TIL) in May 2018 at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and as Associate Professor in the School of Molecular Sciences within the College of Science, Health and Engineering at La Trobe University in 2020. As a laboratory head, he leads a research program to decipher the details of tumour-immune engagement and has established a strong clinical trial and industry-supported research program. His lab is developing methods and tests to understand how the immune-tumour interaction can be qualified, quantified and influenced. He has published over 50 scientific articles including in Nature, Science, Nature Communications and Science Advances and holds multiple national and international patents based on his work.
